Bidet Seat Basics
Here are some things you need to consider before you start shopping for a bidet seat.
Cost: A Brondell bidet attachment that only sprays water is $30 on Amazon, to more than $1,000 for Toto's top-of-the-line Washlet S550e bidet seat, which comes with a warm air dryer and two-seat bidet. Shape: You can find bidet seats that fit round toilets or slim toilet bowl. The bidet attachment is suitable for any type of toilet.
Installation: Installing a bidet seat or accessory requires shutting off the water supply to the toilet and replacing the old valve with the two-way valve that comes with the bidet - use an adjustable wrench to unscrew the old valve and tighten the new valve. Then connect two new supply hoses to the valve, one to the bidet and one to the toilet. Since the bidet seat replaces the toilet seat, you will need to remove the seat before installation. (You don't need to remove the toilet seat to install the bidet attachment.) None of this is particularly difficult, but you should be able to work around the pipes easily.
Some manufacturers, like Toto, provide instructions via YouTube videos; if you'd like to leave installation to the professionals, we can provide an in-home service. The bidet seat works with any manufacturer's toilet. However, as panelists mentioned in our bidet reviews, the seat may wobble a little or not fit tightly. Therefore, be sure to check with the bidet seat manufacturer to make sure the model you are considering is compatible with your setup.
Cleaning: Many bidet seats and accessories have a "self-cleaning" nozzle that flows through the nozzle of water after it's sprayed on your butt, rinsing it away. But it and the rest of your seat or accessories still need regular cleaning on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. You should never scrub it with bleach, but you will need to wipe it down regularly with a mild detergent and remove any sediment between the water supply and the filter.
